  • Pulau Santap : The meeting between the Bunus and the Ceringging river is the origin of the Janda Baik. In the early days, there was a small island that Sultan Abu Bakar from Pahang having his meal. Santap is derived from Palcae language which means having meal and that is where it got its name. The small island is no longer visible, but visitors still come and picnic here or take a bath because of its shallow water.
  • Ulu Tampit Waterfall. This place is highly recommended to visit known as Ulu Tampit Waterfall and is located in Latto Charok. Ulu Tampit Waterfall is a very fun place. There are seven levels of waterfall and the 4th, 5th and 7th floors are the most visited. It takes about 45 minutes of trekking and hiking through the forest to reach the top level. During the rainy season, you are not encouraged to go there because the water is cloudy and there are plenty of buds or leeches and also can cause you to fall down during a slippery climb. On the 5th floor of the waterfall, the panoramic view is magnificent while the 7th floor is the perfect place to soak your feet in the water. The water is very cold and a little deep, but you will not be carried by the stream. This is because it is one of the safest waterfalls to dive into. Kids are the best and enjoy playing on the 5th floor waterfall.
  • Mount Nuang : Gunung Nuang is the highest mount in Selangor (1493m). It is among the famous mountain for local and foreign trekkers. You can go hiking to Gunung Nuang through Janda Baik and it takes about 11 hours journey from the main entrance.

By Car : Drive from Kuala Lumpur just 45 km. Take the KL – Gombak Highways, after the first tunnel take a left turn, follow by a U-turn into the petrol station Petronas and follow the signage to Kg Janda Baik. 

By Train : Take a train Putra LRT to Gombak station.and take a cab or eHailing to Janda Baik. It will cost about RM100 per way.

Kapas Island

Kapas Island is a haven of relaxing tropical atmosphere and is located in the South China Sea, about 20 minutes’ drive from Marang Jetty, Terengganu with a distance of only 6 kilometers. It is known as Kapas Island because the beach sand is white like a cotton. The white and clean beach here is very impressive to the visitors who come here. In addition, the water is so clear and the view of the seabed is so beautiful that it certainly makes many people fascinated. Kapas Island is also very popular for snorkeling and scuba diving because it has a beautiful coral reef with colorful marine life that certainly attracts many people’s attention. How To Get To Kapas Island

Tourists can board a boat or ferry at Marang Jetty. Don’t get the wrong jetty either, because there is another jetty in Terengganu, the Merang Jetty, but only to Redang Island. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Marang Jetty to avoid congestion. The journey to reach Kapas Island is only about 30 minutes. The earliest boat or ferry trip is from 9.00 am.

Gunung Senyum Recreational Forest

Gunung Senyum was first opened as a ‘recreational forest’ on the 14th July 1989 and was officially managed by the Temerloh Forestry of Pahang. Apart from its matchless tree species, Gunung Senyum too offers attractive and unique landscapes such as the mysterious caves to explore, as well as jungle trails to follow. Gunung Senyum Recreational Forest covers area of 794 hectares and is located in compartment of 1, 2, 3 and 4, Jengka Forest Reserve. Here, in Gunung Senyum you can find two limestone hills, namely Gunung Senyum and Gunung Jebak Puyoh. Gunung Senyum stands 550m high. There are more than 20 caves in the hill which can be explored. Some are archaeological sites. Gunung Jebak Puyuh is further away and offers an exciting jungle trek to reach its caves.

Even through Gunung Senyum isn’t well known among visitors, the Gunung Senyum Recreational Forest is an interesting destination for those interested in caving and trekking. There is a Hutan Lipur Rangers office by the car park and camping ground. The climb can be slippery and slip, thus it is not suitable for children/obese/senior citizen who are not used to hiking or people with disability.

Gua Rangkak (Crawling Caves)

Gua Rangkak literary means crawling caves, visitor will have to craw through the entrance before they are able to enter the proper cave. The cave entrance is only 1.5km height. Once visitor finished the crawl, the cave ceiling has a 15 meter height. The foot of the cave has scribbles that looks like ancient writings. These are natural formation due to erosion from water droplets that happened for million of years.

Located 40km from Temerloh, and 20km from Pusat Jengka.

By Road : From the mainKuantan to Kuala Lumpur road in the Temerloh area, there are 2 or 3 turn offs all signposted to Hutan Lipur (Recreational Forest) Gunung Senyum. One is by the east end of the bridge at Temerloh, one at Kampung Awah. Follow the signs. 40km, from Bandar Pusat Jengka.

By Water : Visitors who love challenging activities would want to endure the ‘crossing over’ Sungai Pahang, that drastically streams down to Gunung Senyum. Sungai Pahang is promising a memorable experience for everyone.

There are several beaches around Tioman Island that you can explore. These are:

ABC

The long name of this beach is Water Bar and is perfect for budget travelers. This area allows you to walk all the way to Tekek. The beach is less interesting because many corals are dead. However, it is ideal for snorkeling and sunset locations because it is very attractive.

Juara Beach

The beach is quiet and quiet no matter what the season is and the only beach that is often the choice to stay. In fact, around this area there is a great pool for swimming activities. It also has a dead coral but is relatively small compared to other areas. To get here, you need to get off the ferry at Tekek, then rent a truck up the steep hill in the middle of the island.

Salang

Just like the Juara, it is also one of the areas with fine sand and very attractive for swimming activities. In fact, there is an area suitable for snorkeling.

Genting

Rocks scattered along the coast of Genting make it even more beautiful. The walking path has several food options compared to other beaches.

 

 

How to get there

By Bus: Take the bus from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing for approximately seven hours. The Mersing bus terminal to the Jetty is about a 15-minute walk.

By Ferry: Take a ferry from the Jetty Mersing or Jetty Tg Gemok. There are three daily ferries to Tioman and the itinerary to Tioman depends on the tides and storms and ferries will have to wait until the sea level is at the proper level before departure. Shortage of passengers at one time will result in cancellation of the ferry journey and passengers will have to wait for the next ferry trip.

Note: All visitors must pay a Marine Park fee at Department of Marine Park kiosk at the Mersing ferry terminal.

Visitors can go to Tioman Island by boat or ferry through either via Mersing Jetty, Johor or via Tanjung Gemok Jetty, Pahang. In addition, visitors can also go to Tioman Island by flight from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang directly to Tioman Island. If taking the ferry, the fare is around RM 30 to RM 35 per person.

The Turtle Project

Juara Turtle Project is a non-governmental organization that implements turtle conservation projects here. It is one of the volunteer initiatives of sea turtles and environmental conservation to educate the local people and also preserve the endangered turtles in the area. It is the result of cooperation with people from various parts of the world and local people.

 

The weather

Every end of the year from December to February is a quiet season where there are no tourist activities on Tioman Island. This is because the quiet season is the monsoon season where high waves begin to arrive from the South China Sea with a height of 5 meters that can sink boats. Tourists can start visiting Tioman Island again as early as next March.
