Museum Tokoh , Kuantan

OBJECTIVE
To establish an institution for acquiring and exhibiting the life stories of the ‘heroes’ of Pahang. It documents their sacrifice and struggle, and shows their achievements.
CONCEPT
The utilisation of the word ‘TOKOH’ bears a broad meaning. The Museum of the state of Pahang, commemorates the loyal ‘heroes’ from all walks of life who have contributed to Pahang by their efforts, skills, excellent service, and other contribution towards the state.
HISTORY
Initially it was called the Museum Pahlawan, but later the name was changed to Museum Tokoh without changing its concept. This was accepted by the Museum Board of Pahang in October 1966.
The present building which was completely renovated on the 24th February 1999 was initally constructed in 1910, during the British ruling period. It was first used as the Kuantan district Office. Then in 1948, the building was renovated and served as Pejabat Kerajaan Daerah Kuantan. It also housed the Pejabat Perairan dan Saliran, Pejabat Perhilitan, Pejabat Pesaka and Pejabat Penghulu Mukim Kuantan until 1993.
On top of having a unique architectural value, this is among the few remaining that has a historical setting. It has been identified in the few remaining that has a historical setting. Mersing Jetty to Tioman

Ferry schedule and route

Generally, the ferry is scheduled to run three times a day. However, the ferry schedule typically depends on the season and weather conditions. During the peak tourist season, which usually runs from March to October, you can expect more frequent ferry departures.

It is estimated to take 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours from Mersing Jetty to Tioman Island. As there are 7 villages in Tioman Island, the ferry from Mersing Jetty will stop at 5 main villages, except Mukut and Nipah, starting from Genting pier all the way to Salang pier. So, you can choose to stop at which pier depending on your planned trip, considering the stay and activities you would love to experience.

As of 2023, the rate for ferry tickets are between RM50-RM65, depending on the operator and type of ferry that you choose. Purchasing a ferry ticket on Bluewater’s official website charges RM120 per adult for a return trip, while RM110 for a child.

  • Pulau Santap : The meeting between the Bunus and the Ceringging river is the origin of the Janda Baik. In the early days, there was a small island that Sultan Abu Bakar from Pahang having his meal. Santap is derived from Palcae language which means having meal and that is where it got its name. The small island is no longer visible, but visitors still come and picnic here or take a bath because of its shallow water.
  • Ulu Tampit Waterfall. This place is highly recommended to visit known as Ulu Tampit Waterfall and is located in Latto Charok. Ulu Tampit Waterfall is a very fun place. There are seven levels of waterfall and the 4th, 5th and 7th floors are the most visited. It takes about 45 minutes of trekking and hiking through the forest to reach the top level. During the rainy season, you are not encouraged to go there because the water is cloudy and there are plenty of buds or leeches and also can cause you to fall down during a slippery climb. On the 5th floor of the waterfall, the panoramic view is magnificent while the 7th floor is the perfect place to soak your feet in the water. The water is very cold and a little deep, but you will not be carried by the stream. This is because it is one of the safest waterfalls to dive into. Kids are the best and enjoy playing on the 5th floor waterfall.
  • Mount Nuang : Gunung Nuang is the highest mount in Selangor (1493m). It is among the famous mountain for local and foreign trekkers. You can go hiking to Gunung Nuang through Janda Baik and it takes about 11 hours journey from the main entrance.

How To Get To Kapas Island

The beaches here are separated by dense forests and there are other wildlife living here, such as monkeys, and snakes. The best months to visit Tioman Island are in June, July and August, while November, December, and January are low season when monsoons are now arriving and the sea is turbulent and choppy

There are several beaches around Tioman Island that you can explore. These are:

ABC

The long name of this beach is Water Bar and is perfect for budget travelers. This area allows you to walk all the way to Tekek. The beach is less interesting because many corals are dead. However, it is ideal for snorkeling and sunset locations because it is very attractive.

Juara Beach

The beach is quiet and quiet no matter what the season is and the only beach that is often the choice to stay. In fact, around this area there is a great pool for swimming activities. It also has a dead coral but is relatively small compared to other areas. To get here, you need to get off the ferry at Tekek, then rent a truck up the steep hill in the middle of the island.

Salang

Just like the Juara, it is also one of the areas with fine sand and very attractive for swimming activities. In fact, there is an area suitable for snorkeling.

Genting

Rocks scattered along the coast of Genting make it even more beautiful. The walking path has several food options compared to other beaches.

 

 

How to get there

By Bus: Take the bus from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing for approximately seven hours. The Mersing bus terminal to the Jetty is about a 15-minute walk.

By Ferry: Take a ferry from the Jetty Mersing or Jetty Tg Gemok. There are three daily ferries to Tioman and the itinerary to Tioman depends on the tides and storms and ferries will have to wait until the sea level is at the proper level before departure. Shortage of passengers at one time will result in cancellation of the ferry journey and passengers will have to wait for the next ferry trip.

Note: All visitors must pay a Marine Park fee at Department of Marine Park kiosk at the Mersing ferry terminal.

Tioman Island is one of the small islands located in the State of Pahang, 39km long and 12 km wide. It is also 70km from Mersing and 36 nautical miles from Tanjung Gemok jetty, Kuala Rompin. Tioman Island is also a duty-free island off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, recognized as a geological wonder, an ecological paradise and one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Southeast Asia. It has also been gazetted as a marine park where the ocean have an abundance of coral reefs and marine life – perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling.

How To Get To Tioman Island

Visitors can go to Tioman Island by boat or ferry through either via Mersing Jetty, Johor or via Tanjung Gemok Jetty, Pahang. In addition, visitors can also go to Tioman Island by flight from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang directly to Tioman Island. If taking the ferry, the fare is around RM 30 to RM 35 per person.

 

Tanjung Gemok Ferry Port

  • Tickets are RM 70 for adults and RM 60 for children
  • Travel to the island around 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours
  • Ferry departures are in the morning and evening only

 

Mersing Ferry Port

  • Tickets are RM 70 for adults and RM 60 for children
  • The trip to the island is about 3 hours
  • Ferry departures every 2 – 3 hours, between 7.30am and 6.00pm

  • Ferry departure time may vary according to current sea conditions
  • Ferries will stop at every village on Tioman Island (except Juara), but it’s best to ask the operator before buying a ticket
  • The number of ferry is reduced during the monsoon season (November to March), and ferry departures may be delayed or canceled without prior notice
  • Buy ferry tickets in advance and not during peak times (weekends, public holidays, school holidays, festive seasons)

Village on Tioman Island

Tioman Island is surrounded by several villages. The largest village is known as Kampung Tekek and is located in the northern part of the island. Kampung Tekek has the largest population. Some other villages are known as Kampung Juara, Kampung Salang, Kampung Air Batang, Kampung Genting and Kampung Paya. Only Kampung Juara faces the South China Sea, while the other villages face the mainland of Peninsular Malaysia.

The Turtle Project

Juara Turtle Project is a non-governmental organization that implements turtle conservation projects here. It is one of the volunteer initiatives of sea turtles and environmental conservation to educate the local people and also preserve the endangered turtles in the area. It is the result of cooperation with people from various parts of the world and local people.

 

The weather

Every end of the year from December to February is a quiet season where there are no tourist activities on Tioman Island. This is because the quiet season is the monsoon season where high waves begin to arrive from the South China Sea with a height of 5 meters that can sink boats. Tourists can start visiting Tioman Island again as early as next March.
