Pahang is the third largest state in Malaysia, occupying the huge Pahang River river basin. It is bordered to the north by Kelantan, to the west by Perak, Selangor and Negri Sembilan, to the south by Johore and to the east by Terengganu and by the South China Sea. Its state capital is Kuantan, and the royal town is Pekan. Other important towns include Jerantut, Kuala Lipis, Rompin, Temerloh and the hill resorts of Genting Highlands, Cameron Highlands, Fraser’s Hill and Bukit Tinggi. The Arabic honorific of Pahang is Darul Makmur (“Abode of Tranquility”). Total population registers approximately 1.5 million people resides in Pahang. The ethnic composition is roughly 1,000,000 Malay and Bumiputera, 233,000 Chinese, 68,500 Indians, 13,700 others, and the rest are non-citizens. Geographically diverse, Pahang ranges from mountainous country in its west to its beautiful and one of the longest coastline in the east Peninsula Malaysia. It adjoins the South China Sea for a distance of 208 kilometers. Of the total land area of the state, 48.8% is covered by forest, 23.4% is agricultural land, 16.3% is government land, 10.8% is urban and industrial land, 0.5% is Orang Asli (Aborigine) Reserve and the remaining 0.2% is mining land.

Pahang, which covers an area of 35,960 sq. km, is the largest state in Peninsular Malaysia. Pahang has so much to offer the visitor that tourists, both locals and foreign, come back again and again.

Pahang has cool green mountains, rain forests, hill resorts, tranquil fishing villages, long stretches of sandy beaches, mysterious caves and unspoilt lakes. With population of 1 million, the state, which lies on the East Coast, offers the finest in beaches such as the famous Cherating Beach, Teluk Chempedak and Beserah Beach. CULTURE

In Pahang, the visitor will find fascinating evidence of the diverse Malaysian cultures, manifested in the customs, clothes, food, art forms, games and festivals of the various races.

Pahang has a rich cultural heritage and its specialty is songket, the distinctive hand-woven gold and silver brocade. Travelers can visit the handicraft centres at Teluk Chempedak, Sungai Karang and Cherating. Household items made from pandanus leaves and woodcarvings, shell crafts and batik are sold at these centers.

Visitors should also not miss out on the Pahang Silk Weaving Centre in Pulau Keladi, Pekan where they can see the process of making the intricately woven material. For those short of time there is a showroom in Kuantan, located on the first floor of Teruntum Complex in Jalan Mahkota.

Batik, the unique wax-printed fabric, is available everywhere with manufacturing outfits at Kuantan, Semambu, Beserah and Cherating. At some of these places the visitors are able to view how batik is made.

Its sister company, SPKG Tours Sdn Bhd operates air conditioned van and shuttle bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Tembeling, which is the main entrance to the National Park or Taman Negara. Then you have to board the boat operated by Nusa Express from Kuala Tembeling to Nusa Camp at RM38.00 per person return trip. The boat leaves Kuala Tembeling at 9.00 am and 2.00 pm daily except on Fridays it operates at 2.30 pm.

The Nusa Riverbus is by far the cheapest means of transport. The rates ranges from as low as RM3.00 to RM15.00 per way.

THE JUBLI PERAK SULTAN HAJI AHMAD SHAH AGRICULTURAL PARK

This agricultural park is made up of three distinct areas that are recreational area, a forest reserve park and a vast fruit orchard. Here flora and fauna of every kind are found in abundance.

The recreational park comes equipped with facilities that allow the visitor to conduct typical recreational activities such as jogging and fishing.

Diehard nature lovers on the other hand, can retreat into 25 hectares of the world’s oldest tropical rainforests. Here flora and fauna of every kind are found in abundance.

By Road : From Kuala Lumpur, take the bypass highway to Kuala Terengganu or follow the road to Bandar Indera Mahkota, Kuantan. Taxi and bus services are available to the park.

The motel is located at Taman Negara and the centers of activities are nearby to the motel. The motel can be reached at 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur and by two alternative ways:

First Route:
Through boat rides from Kuala Tembeling Jetty in Jerantut. The journey will take you through adventures and natural habitat for about 3 hours.

Second Route:
Overland will minus the experience gained above direct to Taman Negara via FELDA Padang Piol. A scheduled public transport is available for this purpose..

This is a bare basic old motel located at Taman Negara. it is very easy access to Taman Negara is is centrally located in the village with great access to foods , grocery shop and floating restaurants. Do not expect anything fancy

Location

Getting to Equatorial Cameron Highlands.
Quickest way is to take the North-South Expressway. From Kuala Lumpur, one just need to drive North and from Penang, just drive South till you reach Simpang Pulai and get off at Exit 137. When you turn off at Exit 137, you will reach Simpang Pulai Booth and right ahead of you is a traffic light which you need to make a right turn. After the right turn, you will reach another traffic light (four junction traffic light), make aright turn from there and you are now on the one and only road up to Highlands. Drive on the scenic road all the way up till you reach at a T-junction with a signage indicating to turn right for Brinchang. Make a right turn from there and drive all the way up till you reach Equatorial Cameron Hiighlands which is on your left. The total drive from Kuala Lumpur to the resort should take you about 2hrs 45mins.

Sultan Abu Bakar Museum (Kuantan)

A tour of the town will not be complete without a visit to the State Museum which houses a rich collection of historical items. The museum, located at Jalan Sultan Ahmad, Pekan has valuable antique pieces such a large quantity of glassware and ceramics from ancient China. Other articles pertaining to natural history, archaeology, ethology and royalty are on display.

The history of Pahang, especially that of its ancients kings is well-documented in this museum. The museum building is the old residence of the first British Resident in Pahang, dating to the 1880’s. Since then it was used as the Japanese Army HQ during the Japanese occupation, and then as the official Istana of the late Sultan Abu Bakar.
