Enjoy
the varied charms that the different highlands in Pahang have
to offer. These highlands, or hill stations, have traditionally
been a retreat where one can rejuvenate the tired body and sooth
the weary soul. During the days when Malaysia was a colony of
the British Empire, such cool retreats were much sought after
by the government officers and their families, to escape the
burning heat on the lowlands and the stress experienced in the
towns. There are many charming bungalow and rest-houses dating
back to the colonial era in the highlands. These highlands include
Cameron Highlands and Fraser's Hill. Today people still flock
to these hill stations to escape for a cool retreat and relaxing
holiday amid nature and fresh air.
Better
access has made the Cameron Highlands very popular, with its
rolling hills, tea plantations, flower nurseries, strawberry
and vegetable farms. Fraser's Hill is very popular with those
wishing to play golf and bird watch.
Although
not actually a high station, the highest peak in Peninsula Malaysia,
Gunung Tahan, 2187 meters, is located in Taman Negara, and provides
a great challenge to those wishing to climb it.
The
recent addition to the list of hill stations is Genting Highlands.
It is not only developed as a cool retreat but also as a casino
and theme park, and is a host to international entertainment
shows. And now Bukit Tinggi has also joined the ranks of popular
hill resorts in Pahang.
