 Objective of the Department
 
 

To carry out the activities, aspects emphasized are with the view of development of culture, some of which includes:

To increase the cultural activities that encourages the public to be more involved in the public acceptance of the National Culture;

»

Expansion of Arts & Culture through projects under the auspicious of strengthening of the policy, development, assistance and education of the various kinds of arts;

»

The correction and strengthening of the cultured and united, peaceful and progressive public and the strengthening of moral and spiritual values based on the national aspirations;

»

To enhance the arts and cultural activities to enhance the loyalty and the love to the nation;

»

To create and produce arts of high standard at the same time, create cultural industry that will uplift the race’s standings;

»

Varied the cultural activities that will help in the growth of the tourism industry that contributes to the economic growth.

 
     
 
An active group, the Kumpulan Kesenian or Cultural Troupe, under the Department performs regular dance and cultural shows not only at the Taman Budaya compound and Auditorium, but also at other places in the state where they are popularly invited.
The dances performed include and portray the traditional dances found in Pahang, like the Zapin Pekan, tarian labi-labi, tarian pelanduk, as well as other traditional Malay dances like the varieties of joget, tarian lilin, mak yong, dikir barat, and zapin.
The choreographies of the traditional dances performed also include and depict the dances of other Malaysian ethnic cultures, like Chinese, Indian, Ibans and Kadazans, Bidayuh, Melanau, and other Malaysian ethnic groups.

For this year (2010) the Kumpulan Kesenian will perform shows for the public at the Auditorium on every second and last Thursdays of the month (except in August and September because of Ramadan and Hari Raya).
They are normally held at 12.30p.m. till 1.00 p.m., and scheduled on the dates below. Do check first or call 09-571 8466 to ensure there's no postponement or cancellation of the shows.

Pulau Keladi / Cultural Village
Only 15 minutes away from Pekan is the Pulau Keladi Cultural Village. Among the attractions here is the birthplace of Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia's second Prime Minister. At the Pahang Silk Weaving Center nearby, visitors can watch the intricate art of silk weaving.
